Khuntan district
Khuntan district is located in the east of Chiangrai province. If traveling along highway 1152 Chiangrai-Wiangchai-Payamengrai-Khuntan route the district is 62 kilometers far from central of Chiangrai. District office has highway 1020 Muang-Teng-Khuntan-Chiangkong route pass by the front.
Khuntan district has total area of 255.5 square kilometers or 159,687.6 Rai by approximate. The landscape has lowlands and foothills. It tilts down from east to west and there is Inc river flowing along from the top almost to the bottom.
The west border is 40 kilometer long. There are 18 brooks that flow throughout every sub-district. The length is about 34 kilometer long and the water flow down to Inc river which flows down to the big Kong river of Chiangkong district, Chiangrai province. Meanwhile the east border is parallel with Doy-yoa mountain range. As a result 47% of the total area is mountains. Houses are mostly built on foothills which are located along the route of Teng-Chiangkong and main road. People do not usually build their houses near Inc river because there is flood during rainy season and it can ruin their farming plot. Khuntan district has 3 sub-districts and 55 villages. There are 10,257 households with the total population of 32,646. Population density is 105.5 people per square kilometer.
Payamengrai district
Payamengrai district is located in the east of Chiangrai. If traveling along highway 1152 Huadoypayamengrai route the district is about 48 kilometer far from the central Chiangrai.
The district has the total area of 514 kilometers or about 321,250 rai. If counting by percentage the total area of Payamengrai can be counted as 4.4 percent of the total area of Chiangrai province. Regarding landscape there is range of hills on the west side and there are complex hills in the middle. The upper east and the lower are lowlands with river and brooks. Main rivers that flow through are Inc, Tak, Poa, and Tam. Payamengrai has 5 districts and 70 villages. There are 13,011 households. The total population is 41,708.
